Outplacement,
Personal Coaching & International Management Development
After a recent global restructuring at a leading agrochemical business,
SPM Online provided coaching, personal development and career counselling
in an outplacement programme.
Using the SPM, several managers who had been made redundant, were
able to better understand their underlying motivations and communication
styles, as assessed by other people.
One individual had several new employment opportunities under consideration,
he decided to apply for a Managing Director's position within a
UK based Dutch Food Company. The SPM was used to show where he would
have challenges in working in a different cultural context and where
he would need to flex his style in order to adapt to a Dutch working
environment. This involved modifying his personal behaviour, language
style, and the tone of his interview presentation; which he did
with success at all stages of the recruitment process. As a result
of examining his motivations through the SPM, the individual realised
that the role would not allow him to fully express his core competences,
such as pioneering and consensus building, and he eventually decided
to refuse the job offer.
He then went on to accept another role, which would fully utilise
these skills on a global scale, rather than being confined in the
UK. His relationship management skills are now being used to their
best advantage.
The important development aspects that the SPM highlighted revolved
around revealing core strengths such as facilitation, consensus
building and networking. Through comparing self-assessment and peer
assessment, the Individual was also able to highlight areas of personal
development, such as encouraging innovative and creative thinking. |
